A graduate of Hollins University with a bachelor of arts in American studies, Hampton Luzak worked as a report and producer for MSNBC and as a casting director for Denise Fitzgerald Casting. Outside of her professional pursuits, Hampton Barringer Luzak maintains membership with the Mayflower Society.
The Mayflower Society, or the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD), comprises more than 54 member societies around the world. As part of the organization’s mission to promote genealogical research into Pilgrim lineage, GSMD has traced the descendants of the Mayflower passengers through the Silver Books project, which began in the 1950s.
To date, 22 volumes of Silver Books have been created with the input of researchers, reviewers, and editors. These skilled genealogists collect evidence in the form of birth certificates, marriage certificates, and baptismal records, which provide valuable information such as dates and maiden names. For time periods where records do not exist, they must rely on indirect evidence to piece together lineage. The digitized and indexed fifth generation of the Silver Books is available on the New England Historic Genealogical Society website.
