The Joyful Heart Foundation and the Heal the Healers Program

Jackson, Wyoming resident Jackson Barringer Luzak studied American studies at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. He also undertook a six-month program at the University of London for a course in English Literature and Shakespeare. Jackson Luzak is passionate about community involvement, donating and volunteering, including the Joyful Heart Foundation.

Founded in 2004 by Mariska Hargitay, the Joyful Hearts Foundation aims to create awareness and influence how society responds to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. The organization uses a two-channeled approach by creating advocacy and educating the public. One of the first notable and highly successful initiatives was Heal the Healers.

Heal the Healers aims to support the professionals who attend to the survivors during the healing journey. Many experience secondary and induced fear, guilt, and helplessness. Therefore, cases abound of post-traumatic stress disorders in a number of them.

Heal the Healers attends to therapists, lawyers, child service, and social workers. Since its inception, the program has supported over 12,000 professionals in 450 organizations.
