Over the years, Hampton Barringer Luzak has held a range of positions in the fields of sales, marketing, news, and entertainment. Hampton B. Luzak has also lent her support to many charitable organizations, including the Joyful Heart Foundation.
The Joyful Heart Foundation is a national nonprofit that serves victims of child abuse and domestic and sexual violence. Among its various programs and initiatives, it strives to raise public awareness about untested rape kits (which contain DNA evidence for criminal rape cases) through its public service announcement (PSA) campaign Shelved.
The flagship PSA for the Shelved campaign is a video public service announcement that equates rape victims with their shelved and untested rape kits. It features an actress who personifies a rape kit being lifted on a forklift in a warehouse. As the actress describes the details of her assailant and pleads for help, the camera follows her past countless other shelved human “rape kits” that demand similar attention.
The Shelved PSA campaign is the creation of former Y&R creative Rachel Howald’s advertising agency Invisible Man. Ellen Kuras, perhaps best known for her cinematography on the feature film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, directed the spot.
